Today CNN tops that prison (which employs personal trainers) with what it calls the “world’s nicest prison” and “the holiday version of Alcatraz.” Also located in Norway, Bastoy Prison is, as you might expect, home to murderers and rapists. Here’s what it’s not home to: armed guards or fences. In fact, the convicts carry the keys to their own rooms. On this tiny island, the 115 prisoners can tan on the beaches, fish, play tennis, and use the sauna.

Instead of cells, they live in cottages “painted a cheery red.” They wear whatever clothes they want. They get paid about $10 a day to do jobs like garden, or tend to horses. They eat farm-fresh eggs and salmon. If all this infuriates you, join the club: Norway has heard it before. It says its unconventional approach reduces the risk of reoffending: Some 20% of the country’s prisoners do so in two years; of those who have passed through Bastoy, it’s 16%. The three-year US rate is 43%. Says the prison’s governor, “”If we have created a holiday camp for criminals here, so what? We should reduce the risk of reoffending, because if we don’t, what’s the point of punishment, except for leaning toward the primitive side of humanity?”

You know, the one every “cool” teenager poses with in their Facebook photos. Now, unlike most other Japanese inventions, the Face Slimmer isn’t high-tech. In fact it’s as low tech as they come, all you have to do is put it in your mouth and start exercising your face muscles. Think of it as a squeeze punch for your mouth…

When photos of the Face Slimmer first appeared on the Internet, some Japanese media outlets took it as a gag, but when it started being listed on online stores like Japan Trend Shop, everyone stopped laughing. This thing isn’t cheap either, it costs a whopping $83. No thanks, I think I’ll cut off the mouth off my blow-up doll instead. Anyway, if you’re curious about how it’s used, Glim has released some photos with the Face Slimmer in action, along with some instructions, like trying to repeat out loud the Japanese vowel sounds – “a i u e o”

Man Chooses Pet Buffalo As Best Man At Vow Renewal Ceremony!

People who renew their wedding vows will generally go to any lengths to get everything right the second time around. So this man from Quinlan, Texas, thought things through and realized that no one could make a better best man than Wildthing, his pet buffalo. A 2008 picture of the ceremony shows Ronald Bridges and his wife Sherron posing along with the towering Wildthing. You’d think the picture was morphed if you didn’t know it really happened.

The Bridges run a ranching business in Texas, and Ronald is actually pretty experienced in working with farm animals. So when Wildthing was born in 2005, Ronald decided to tame and raise him as a part of the family. When the buffalo responded beautifully to domestication, the Bridges kind of went overboard. They actually gave him a room of his own in the house where he could eat, sleep and come and go as he pleased. The only time he’s not allowed inside is when they have guests over, as American Bison can actually be pretty temperamental and dangerous around people.

But this did not discourage Ronald one bit from having Wildthing participate in the wedding ceremony, and his wife, Sherron, had no objections either. The 40 guests present at the event were surprised and cautious at the same time. They stayed clear of the huge bison throughout the whole thing, and there were  no disruptions on account of Wildthing. He performed his duties as best man pretty well, and Ronald  remembers he was specially brushed for the occasion and looked very smart. He even carried the rings on the tips of his horns.

The Bridges say that Wildthing may look scary, but he’s actually a real softie at heart. He loves being with the family all the time – relaxing on the grass with Ronald, playing with the rubbish wheelie bin and watching their daughter on the trampoline. At times he scratches himself against the side of the house or scrapes windows with his horns, and then he gets told off. So he goes away to sulk for a while, but he’s back soon for more family-time. He sounds a lot like a dog-in-a-buffalo’s-hide.

Strangely enough, the Bridges aren’t the only family with a buffalo as a pet. Jim and Linda Sautner treat Bailey the Buffalo as a member of the family and even let him ride in their car, while young South-African Luke Michaelides is best friends with two African Buffaloes.

Emcee-turned-actor Will Smith (f/k/a The Fresh Prince) is presently on a press campaign for the third film in theMen In Black franchise. During a Moscow, Russia red carpet gala this week, the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native was unexpectedly kissed on the mouth by Ukrainian prankster-reporter Vitalii Sediuk. Smith reacted with by shoving Sediuk, asking, "Come on, man. What the hell is your problem?" followed by a small smack on the man's face.

TMZ.com has video footage of the event posted below, where Smith explains his actions moments later. "He's lucky I didn't sucker-punch him. Oops, sorry, I said that on camera," Smith said with a smile.

Charged With Driving Drunk With Zebra And Parrot Inside Truck!

Dubuque, IA- Jerald Reiter, a 56-year-old Iowa man was arrested Sunday night after he was allegedly caught trying to drive drunk while a zebra and a parrot rode shotgun in the seat next to him.

According to police, officers stopped Reiter as he climbed into a truck parked at the Dog House Bar and attempted to operate the vehicle while he was intoxicated.

When officers approached the vehicle, Reiter was found seated next to a zebra and a parrot.

Reiter told investigators that the animals were his pets and that the bar allows him to bring the animals inside when they are not serving food.

Several bar patrons were taking photos of the animals – one of which is believed to have contacted police. Reiter disputed his arrest, telling officers that he was about to let a passenger drive his truck.

Reiter was charged with driving under the influence. The fate of the animals found at the scene were not disclosed in the report.

Husband hacks into wife’s phone, catches her cheating, wants divorce

A Nigerian customary court based in Ojo, a suburb of Lagos will decide 22 May whether to grant a divorce request by a couple, over accusations of adultery.

Forty-three year-old man, Mr Peter Ekundayo asked the Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Ojo to dissolve his marriage after confirming his wife’s adulterous act by hacking into her phone.

“When I became suspicious of Funmi, my wife, I decided to activate call monitoring on my wife’s phone through the help of a computer expert. Due to the call monitoring I activated, whenever my wife got an incoming call, mine would vibrate and then I just click to listen to her conversations on my phone. What I discovered almost made me take my life,” Ekundayo said.

The petitioner, who resides at Ajoke Bodunde Street, Ojo-Igbede, Lagos, has been married to Funmi for two years.
Ekundayo said his wife’s attitude changed since she got a job as sales representative in a fast food outfit located at Iyana-Isashi area of Lagos.

“My wife’s attitude has become intolerable for me; she is always bent on denying me my right of sexual intercourse with her. As soon as my wife got that job, I noticed that I no longer had any influence on her. Even sexual matters in our marriage gradually became a thing of the past,” he said

The petitioner said that he became suspicious of her activities especially as she usually crept out of bed at night to receive calls, which initially she never did.

Ekundayo said that he was shocked on one occasion when he heard his wife’s telephone conversation with their neighbour whom she was allegedly sleeping with.

“During the conversation on phone, Funmi and that my neighbour both agreed to meet at a hotel around Afromedia, near Iyana-Isashi, after she closed from work. I deliberately did go out of the house that evening so as to monitor when Funmi will return from work. She returned from work that day at about 10 p.m and claimed that a truck had fallen on the road which caused much traffic. 

I almost took my life when I realised the shameful acts of my wife in the short time we have been married,” Ekundayo said.

He said that he wanted a divorce because he was still young and did not want to die from any illness associated Funmi’s alleged sexual immorality.

Funmi declined to make any comment in response to the allegation levelled against her by the petitioner.

In the end, Facebook is just another website selling ads, he explains, and online ad rates are constantly falling. “I don’t know anyone in the ad-Web business who isn’t engaged in a relentless, demoralizing, no-exit operation to realign costs with falling per-user revenues.”

Yeah, yeah, Facebook is supposed to be different. It has “in some yet-to-be-defined way, redefined something. Relationships? Media? … Something big, anyway.” But so far it hasn’t found the Google-esque big idea that will put it at the heart of global e-commerce. It’s just selling ads, and to meet expectations, it “has to sell at near hyperspeed.” Given its nearly infinite inventory, this desperate gambit will glut “an already glutted market,” driving down costs for the entire ad-driven web. “The crash will come. And Facebook … will fall with everybody else.”

Four Tons Of Marijuana Pulled From Ocean!

What a find: After receiving a tip yesterday, Harbor Patrol agents in California pulled about 160 bales of marijuana from the ocean off the coast of Orange County.

That’s more than 7,263 pounds, and agents say the street value is $3.6 million, CBS 2 reports.

The marijuana, which was floating at least 15 miles off shore with no boat in sight, was turned over to US Border Patrol. The investigation into how exactly it got there is continuing, theOrange County Register reports. A Border Patrol rep calls the situation an odd one, noting that bales are usually dumped by boats that are being chased.

An El Cajon, San Diego, jury awarded the man with a generous, I think, $7.5 million.

Jailed After Beating His Grandmother Nearly To Death With Hammer

Mesa, Arizona- Terry Seely, a 20-year-old Arizona man was jailed Saturday after he allegedly beat his grandmother with a hammer, burglarized her home and stole her car.

According to the Mesa Police Department, Seely reportedly went to his grandparent’s residence with the intention of apologizing for his recent bad behavior.He spoke to his grandfather, who was leaving to go to a doctor’s appointment and told him that he needed to leave. The two men then left the residence at the same time.

Investigators say Seely did not leave entirely, but instead circled around the block and returned to his grandparent’s home. He then entered the residence through a back door, found a hammer and used it to repeatedly strike his grandmother in the head.

Investigators say Seely stole a jewelry box, speakers, credit cards, an iPad, and other valuable items from his grandparent’s home before fleeing in his grandmother’s car, leaving her to die.Seely’s grandfather came home at about 1:00 p.m. to find his wife’s car missing. When entered to the home to find it burglarized. When then found his wife in a bedroom, severely injured but still alive. She was rushed to a local hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

Doctors say the elderly woman suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain, which required emergency surgery.

Seely was booked into jail and charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree trafficking stolen property, two counts of aggravated assault, second-degree burglary, theft of a means of transportation, two counts of drug possession, and one count of possessing drug paraphernalia.

Real-Life Mutant Girl Causes Things Around Her To Catch On Fire!

A yet unnamed 11-year-old girl from Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City has been making headlines in Asia, for her alleged uncontrollable power to set things around her on fire.

According to Vietnamese website Ngoisao, on May 12, a young girl living in the Tan Binh district of Ho Chi Minh has burned down almost the entire third floor of her family’s home. Her father says the child did not have access to any fire-inducing objects, and that the fire was caused by the super-energy in her body. How many times have we heard that one before, right? But while that may sound like the exaggerations of a parent looking for media attention, this is apparently not the first time this Vietnamese girl has caused things to burst into fire just by going near them.

The unnamed girl’s parents say they’ve noticed her peculiar abilities about a month ago, when their home’s electrical network underwent repeated short-circuiting. Then the power outlets around the house burst into fire when their daughter came near them, and at one time she even burned a corner of the toilet seat. What’s even more intriguing is they claim the same phenomenon repeated itself when they took the girl to other places, as well. For example, during a vacation to Vung Tau beach, she burned the hotel room. The 11-year-old told Vietnamese media that on occasions, even her clothes catch on fire for no apparent reason.

After the incident that occurred on May 12, the girl’s family rerouted the house’s entire electrical network, moved all furniture  and electrical appliances as far away from their daughter as possible, and got separate keys for all family members so they could all escape the house, should something like this happen again. They keep guard over their daughter 24/7 and sleep with buckets full of water and wet towels next to them to extinguish potential fires. They have also taken the girl to be tested by scientists at the Hong Bang International University, in Ho Chi Minh.

Du Quang Chau, an expert in radiesthesia (the ability to detect “radiation” within the human body) conducted a series of tests on the child and found something odd in her brain’s right hemisphere. Realizing this was an unprecedented case both in Vietnam and the world, he created a panel of scientists to conduct studies on the girl and her surrounding environment. The unique phenomenon attracted scientists from various fields, including physics, medicine, psychology, culture and sociology.  Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Director of the Hong Bang University, said RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) tests showed a weird “halo” in the girl’s right hemisphere that could be the cause of her unusual power.

The girl was medically examined at Cho Ray Hospital and the Children No 2 Hospital, but doctors didn’t find anything abnormal.

The names of the unique girl and her parents have not been made public, but photos of their damaged home were published in the media.

Blast outside school in Italy kills at least 1, several wounded

I personally learn't that one girl has died and half a dozen are injured following a bomb blast outside a school in the southern Italian city of Brindisi, Italian officials said Saturday.

Officials have given conflicting accounts of the number killed and injured.

Daniela Buccoliero, an official at the Prefecture of Brindisi, a local office of the Interior Ministry, told CNN one 16-year-old girl had died and another six students are injured, two of them seriously.

Brindisi Mayor Mimmo Consales and Fabiano Amati, regional minister for Italy's Civil Protection agency, said there had been two deaths as a result of the blast.

Lil Wayne Being Investigated For Assault

Lil Wayne is being investigated for assault for the second time in a month.

According to TMZ, Weezy was reportedly skateboarding with his crew when a fan named Alfredo Marino approached the rapper and asked to take a photograph. After Wayne declined, he returned to his car and tried to slyly snap a picture. Only shortly after, Wayne approached the vehicle with his crew and said, "Don’t you know all it takes is a word and these motherf**kers are going to f**k you up?"

Marino claims that he was then hit in the back of the head with a skateboard, knocking him down and drawing blood. He says that he suffered a concussion and vertigo.

"My client will enforce all of his rights under the law and all individuals responsible for this outrageous incident will be blamed for the damages that my client has suffered and continues to suffer," said his lawyer, Craig Chisvin.

Last month, a photographer filed a police report in Miami, Florida for a similar incident. Police are currently investigating Marino's claims.
